The Retail Development Manager is responsible for all aspects of planning, budgeting, and execution for the launching of new stores.
The Retail Development Manager must collaborate with external designers, contractors, vendors and mall management regarding the concepts and development, availability of space, needs, and style preferences. Then, he/she uses his/her in-depth knowledge of retail business operations and combining it with his/her expertise in design to create an innovative plan that includes detailed layouts, technical models and drawings, and estimates for time, cost, materials, and equipment.
Once approved, the Retail Development Manager coordinates with other members (such as the project architect and project designer) to implement the plan. This includes negotiating construction fees with contractors and subcontractors, procuring materials, maintaining required documentation, and setting and communicating deadlines for key deliverables. The Retail Development Manager must closely monitor progress for all aspects of the project and ensure efficient, accurate, and cost-effective implementation of the project plan.
A bachelor's degree in interior design, architecture, or a related field is generally required for this position, as well as a minimum of five years of experience is required. Proficiency in a variety of office, design, graphics, and project-planning software is needed as well. The incumbent must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong time management and leadership skills.
